While making my normal stop on the make shift store that sells chinese dried veggies in the Jalan Pasar morning market, I overheard the following conversation between a regular customer and the ever friendly stall owner.
Customer: Hey, tell you something. I went for a tour recently. The tour guide promised that the tourists who followed the tour will be able to see shark ("Sar Yee" in Cantonese, one of the local Chinese dialect).
Stall Owner: I see.....
Customer : After the tour, I went and asked the tour guide..."Hey, what happen to the shark? We don't get to see any sharks during our tour. Where is the sharks?"
Stall Owner: (Curious) So what happened?
Customer: You know how the tour guide said.....
Stall Owner: What?
Customer: First he asked me whether I saw any "Sar" (in Cantonese... means sand).I answered "Yes". And then he asked whether I saw any "Yee" (in Cantonese...means fish). And I said "Yes". Finally the tour guide said "There you have it. "Sar Yee" (in Cantonese). Just as I promised, you got to see the sand and fish (literally)."
Yep, just a matter of interpretation. Who would have ever thought of such interpretation. Most of us would think of shark. Well, so cheer up my morning market walk!
